Léargas at S.H.N.S., Newbawn

Léargas / Comenius 2008 – 2010

In January Sacred Heart N.S., Newbawn was selected to participate in a Léargas / Comenius Project from 2008-2010.

	Our project group have focused on 'Regional History’ and includes schools in Germany, England and Holland. Over the two years it is envisaged that pupils and teachers will engage in a series of activities and events aimed at broadening our knowledge base about our European neighbours.
	It is hoped that this international exchange of knowledge and personnel will result in heightened motivation and inspiration for the teachers involved thereby improving the learning of the pupils in their care.
	Pausjoanneschool and Liduinaschool are our Dutch partners.
	Hayton CE Primary School and Lees Hill CE are our English partners.

Visit to Ireland (Teacher Exchange) - Newbawn, Wexford.

In February 2009 four staff members from Hayton primary school and Lees Hill primary school came to visit our school in Newbawn. During their visit many of the children performed various activities- playing musical instruments, Irish dancing, demonstrating hurling/football skills. An enjoyable time was had by all- children and adults alike!!


	Snapshot

	Currently in Sacred Heart NS (SHNS)... There are 148 children attending school. These are divided into 6 class teachers with 2 Learning Support Teachers. There are 8 teachers, 2 SNAs, 2 part-time Secretaries and a cleaner working in the school.


	2008 - 2009

	There are six classrooms. Junior Infants - 22 pupils Senior Infants - 24 pupils 1st & 2nd - 32 pupils 3rd & 4th - 34 pupils 5th - 16 pupils 6th - 20 pupils
