Sacred
Heart N.S. is a catholic school under the patronage of the Catholic
Bishop of Ferns, Bishop Dennis Brennan. The
Parish Priest is Chairperson of the BOM. Pupils of
different religions are welcomed in Sacred Heart N.S. Formal
religious instruction is given each day and in accordance with the
Rules of National Schools, parents, may if they wish, withdraw their
children from formal religious instruction. Due to pressure of
personnel and space it is unlikely that children of different faiths
will be possibly accommodated in SHNS. Every effort is made to
impart Christian values and ideals in an informal way, so that the
children live their religion rather than learn it.Christian
iconology is present throughout the school.
All
classes are mixed and all pupils are treated equally. The pupils
come from varying backgrounds and every effort is made to encourage
kindness and tolerance towards, and acceptance of everybody in
S.H.N.S.
The children are prepared for the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist
and Confirmation.
Parents of non-Catholic children are encouraged, at
all times, to discuss with the teachers any worries they may have
concerning the teaching of religion. They are also encouraged to
view, in school, any books or resources used for the teaching of
religion. The school acts as an agent for a number of Religious
magazines and in fund-raising from time to time for charities,
religious and otherwise.
All five
classes ie Junior & Senior Infants, 1st & 2nd,
3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th are mixed classes.
The school
depends on the grants and teacher resources provided by the
Department of Education and Science and it operates within the
regulations laid down, from time to time, by the Department. School
policy has regard to the resources and funding available.
The school
follows the curricular programmes prescribed by the Department of
Education and Science, which may be amended from time to time, in
accordance with Sections 9 and 30 of the Education Act (1998).
Within the
context and parameters of Department regulations and programmes, the
rights of the patron as set out in the Education Act (1998), and the
funding and resources available, the school supports the principles
of
o inclusiveness, particularly with reference to the
enrolment of children with a disability
or other special educational
need.
o equality of access and participation in the school.
o parental choice in relation to enrolment
o respect
for diversity of values, beliefs, traditions, languages and ways of
life in society.
