Parents' Association Sports Day 2008

On Friday  6th June the Parents' Association organised and ran a highly successful Sports Day for the children of SHNS in Newbawn Sportground. For a few weeks before the event the Committee spent many hours organising events, auditing equipment and making teams.

The day itself dawned brightly, in spite of the forecasts, and the children were duly deposited at the Sportsgrounds

The Sports Day was a great success. The weather was very humid and it was necessary to wear sun cream. The activities included: Running race, egg and spoon race, bouncy castles, tug-o-war and even sumo suits! The school was made up of different groups for some of the activities, the groups were: Navy, Green, Caps, White, Black, Wexford jerseys, Orange, Red, Yellow and Blue.

The sumo suits were a big hit with all the kids (and even some of the adults!). Another big hit were the bouncy castles with the younger generation. The soccer league was made up of the following teams: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, and I. Most of the school staff and parents council were helping hand at the event. The barbeque was a new thing this year giving out free burgers and juice! All the classes tried very hard in all the races.

It was a great day and should have it like this every year. I would give it 10 out of 10!

Huge thanks are due to all the Parents' Association who manned the events, acted as referees, score keepers, starters, finish line personnel, chief organisers, event monitors, chefs, food and drink distributors, people who on the day ran, at very short notice, for overlooked items.
