Carol Service 2005

In the week before the Christmas Holidays, the second ever Newbawn NS Carol Service was held in Newbawn Church. All the children had been practicing for many weeks. Louise Malone, the Music Teacher, had picked out certain things for each class to perform on the night. The little ones sang and each of the bigger classes played songs and carols on the recorder. They also sang. When we rehearsed we had been able to read the music from our sheets but as we got closer to the Concert we were not allowed to use the sheets at all. Some of the kids from Mrs. Joan Murphy's Class read the story of Christmas and during this the songs and carols were performed. Some of the older girls sang a very hard song called "Gaudete." There were three groups singing this at the same time. Louise made cds for them of all the different parts and Sir made a cd for all the children in his class and we practiced it everyday at lunchtime. It sounded very good on the night.

There was a huge crowd of families in the Church which was good because it was the Monday before Christmas. We were all very nervous but everybody enjoyed the Concert. It was great fun because we all wore our Christmas clothes, hats and scarves. At the end the whole school sang a pile of well known Christmas songs and lots of kids had lights flashing on their heads for this.

After the Concert the Parents' Council had orange an crisps for all the children and tea and coffee and mince pies for the parents. It was a lovely start for Christmas.
